A clash had taken place between Akali and Congress workers at Kangar village in Rampura Phul constituency on July 3. Gurmeet Singh and Sadhu Singh were injured and admitted to the civil hospital at Bhagta.
Both told the police that Kangar, former MLA from Rampura Phul, and his supporters attacked them.Gurmeet alleged that he was chased by Kangar and his supporters and also threatened at gunpoint. He also alleged that Kangar targeted a booth outside the polling centre and ransacked poll material.
The police have booked Kangar, former sarpanch Swaranjit Singh Kaka, Charanjit Singh, Sadhu Singh Nambardar, Manpreet Singh, Sadhu Singh, Darshan Singh and Kuldip Singh, all residents of Kangar village, and Rajwinder Singh of Bhai Rupa village.
Two-time MLA Kangar had lost to Akali leader Sikander Singh Maluka in the 2012 assembly elections.
