So Saturdays for you mean hitting a pub to party with friends? How about trying something new this weekend? An art gallery in the city is here to lend a new meaning to your weekends, by organising a show for budding artists on the last Saturday of every month. Started in January this year, 10 artists are given a studio space to display their works for two weeks. In their current show, artist Mukesh Sah has depicted the beauty and destruction in Uttrakhand that we all are aware of.

“Having grown up in Uttarakhand, I have a special affinity to the mountains and visit them every year,” says Sah. Just back from his trip to this state last month, Sah relates his narrow escape from the floods, in his installation, I was a mountain. “We often notice warning signs while driving along the valley but don’t take them seriously.
I’ve painted the warnings on rocks I got from Uttarakhand so that people take notice,” he explains.
Aruna Mathew, coordinator, Niv Art Centre, says, “We want to encourage the youth  to display and attend art shows. Saturdays are perfect for most youngsters.”
