On June 21, Patna SSP Manu Maharaj had sent a message to all DSPs and SHOs of the district to stay extra vigilant. “We are on a high alert and all efforts are being made to nab the terrorists,” Maharaj had said at the time.
An alert was also sounded by the state police headquarters regarding the security of religious shrines and other important sites across Bihar then.
Officials with knowledge of the alert said inputs about terror threats to the Mahabodhi temple, Vishnupad temple at Gaya and other religious shrines were being received continuously from the IB and other agencies.
In the past, interrogation of arrested terrorists by security agencies had revealed that the Mahabodhi temple was among the important terror targets in India.
