The excitement was palpable on the third and final day of IIFA Awards (International Indian Film Academy) this year, as several Bollywood biggies readied to scorch the stage with their high-octane performances, and those nominated, hoped that they would win an award.
who’s who, including the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Vidya Balan, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Anushka Sharma, among various others, descended on the Green Carpet, hordes of screaming fans welcomed them.
At the ceremony, Shah Rukh Khan and Shahid Kapoor played the animated hosts and sent the audience to splits with their one-liners. However, it was the awardees who generated a lot of laughter with their acceptance speeches.
Actor Vidya Balan, who won the best actor (female) for her role in Kahaani (2012) couldn’t stop mentioning her husband, producer, Siddharth Roy Kapoor. “I love you Siddharth,” she said while accepting her award, and when asked who was the ‘Lala’ for whom she sang Oolala Oolala she said, “Mere SRK hi mere lala hai.”
There was more affection on display, as Deepika Padukone announced, “I love you and I miss you Ranbir,” after she won the Award for the Best Jodi (on-screen) with ex-boyfriend and actor Ranbir Kapoor, who wasn’t present at the event.

High on glam quotient
The other high point of the evening was actor Madhuri Dixit’s performance. The yesteryears dancing diva, who is making a comeback with her film, Gulaab Gang, stole the hearts of the audience with a fabulous gig.
Actors Sridevi and Prabhu Deva performed together for the first time and sent the crowds in a tizzy. Sridevi was also nominated in the Best Actor (female) category for her role in English Vinglish (2012). The 49-year-old dazzled in a golden gown.
Bollywood beauties rocked the gown with everyone from Anushka Sharma to Amrita Rao, Diya Mirza and Jacqueline Fernandez opting for the international outfit in shades of pastel.
Meanwhile, Hollywood biggie Jean Claude Van Damme, who was on his third trip to IIFA, revealed that he was looking for Indian talent for his next venture.
