Bio-diversity job’s strange criteria
One's personal life would have a bearing in consideration of his or her application for the post of secretary National Board for Bio-Diversity, the top-most body for protection of flora and fauna.
The condition for
disqualification says, ‘a person who has contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living or vice-versa will not be eligible for the job unless the Central government allows so’. Strangely, this is the only disqualification condition prescribed by the board for an appointment for three years.
Sukma DM to head the New Raipur project
Alex Paul Menon, the pro-active Sukma district magistrate who was kidnapped by Maoists, has found a new job. He has been shifted to Raipur and is now in charge of the development of the New Raipur project, an ambitious scheme of the Raman Singh government.
Menon was seen as a threat by the Maoists for zealous approach for development and personal visits in remote areas. The state government has now given him a major development project to handle, but in a safer zone.
Hectic lobbying for CPCB chairperson post
The environment ministry may soon decide on appointment of new chairperson of Central Pollution Control Board, the post lying vacant for more than a year. The ministry has said to have started process to appoint the chairperson after an earlier selection was rejected by environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan.
As the government is keen to appoint an Indian Forest Service officer as chairperson instead of an environmental expert, hectic lobbying is said to be going on for the important post. The chairperson CPCB has powers to decide on allowing certain industries in areas considered as polluted.
Former CAG left books behind in office
It is common for bureaucrats to take home stuff including books when they move on transfer, or retire. Former Comptroller & Auditor General Vinod Rai, however, isn’t one of them. The CAG’s office told RTI activist Aseem Takyar - who asked for a list of books that Rai had taken along -- that "to the contrary, he has donated his personal books to the office on his retirement”.
