The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) has plans to plant 64,000 saplings in Gurgaon alone during this season.
Jakhu also emphasised on the need to engage the common people in the green exercise.
During the meeting, it was revealed that for maintaining ecological balance in Haryana, which has a population of 2.5 crore, 13 crore plants are required. At present, there are about 3 crore plants and therefore the deficit of 10 crore plants has to be bridged.
Jakhu said that the forest department would also launch a publicity drive through its ‘Van Chetna Yatra’ for raising awareness about forestry and plantations among the masses. Four special buses have been designed for this purpose and will be flagged off by the chief minister.
The additional chief secretary said that everybody should plant at least a sapling and take care of it. Raising the slogan of ‘Each One, Adopt one’, he asked the officers to involve general people to the maximum in the plantation drive.
