“Voters of UP have a different mindset and culture,” said Yadav while making light of the speculations that the saffron party was contemplating fielding Modi from Varanasi.
“It’s hard to understand the UP politics while staying in Gujarat. One will only come to know of his popularity here only after getting into the local politics. I don’t think Modi is going to make any difference in UP’s political scenario,” said Yadav while addressing a press conference at Johar University in Rampur.
Singh was here to condole the death of the mother of state urban development minister Azam Khan. Khan’s mother Ameer Jahan Begum passed away on Tuesday.On fielding candidates against Congress veterans, Yadav said the process was on and the decision would be taken in the parliamentary board meeting to be held soon.
The SP chief also criticised the centre over the Chinese incursions into Indian territory. “It’s time to take a tough stand,” he said while Azam Khan reminded what Mulayam did during his tenure as union defence minister.
“Neta ji himself visited Ladakh to take the stock of the situation and to boost up the morale of the Indian soldiers when such provocations were made by China during his tenure,” Khan reminded.
The SP supremo also visited the departments of the recently-inaugurated Johar University.
