As part of the 'I am Santosh' campaign in solidarity with its candidate designate for Seemapuri assembly constituency - critical after an accident last week - the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) garnered an overwhelming donation of more than R19 lakh on Wednesday. Starting on Wednesday, AAP had announced its volunteers would raise the entire legal permissible amount of R14 lakh needed for Santosh Koli to fight the election from her constituency.

The party has already been collecting donation for several of its candidates, who cannot raise this kind of money. In the days after Koli's accident, AAP's campaign received a huge response. By 8pm on Wednesday, the first day, more than R19 lakh had been collected.

After a severe accident last week, Koli is fighting for life at a private hospital. The party has already said they suspect a foul play as she had been receiving threats. "This will be a befitting reply to those who thought they can silence her/us," the announcement for the 'I am Santosh' campaign read.

Reacting to what he called as "overwhelming response", AAP spokesperson Manish Sisodia said: "It is all common man donating. It goes on to prove that people will support you if you come with a clean cause. This is a model of politics with clean money and a fitting answer to the politics of black money."
