A group of religious followers sat on an indefinite dharna opposite Gurdwara Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib at Patran in Patiala, demanding immediate removal of the present gurdwara committee members and appointment of new 31 members, as reportedly ordered by the Akal Takht last month.

Sub-divisional magistrate Sukhwinder Singh Gill and DSP Harjinder Singh Gill had to rush to to the spot to prevent any untoward incident.

Shiromani Committee member Nirmal Singh alleged that the Akal Takht had ordered the immediate removal of present committee members, after they were found to be indulging in indiscipline and anti religion activities.

"Present members refused to vacate the office, violating the order of takht. We will protest till the administration listens to us and takes a just decision in the matter."

Officials from the district administration locked the main gate of the gurdwara, but failed to persuade the protesters to move out of the premises. Meanwhile, heavy security has been deployed at the spot as a precautionary measure.
