A meeting between the municipal corporation authorities and the traffic police was held on Thursday, in which far-reaching plans were discussed to improve traffic situation and remove encroachments in the city. SSP Hardyal Mann said that a new policy would be implemented to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety. He claimed that  to increase awareness of traffic rules among people, 60 marshals have been recruited.

To curb illegal parking, sticker challans will be introduced and CCTVs will be installed at all roundabouts.He said that within the walled city, new parking locations will be identified. Encroachments will also be removed.

Mayor Amaninder Bajaj said that he will seek the cooperation of the residents and shopkeepers for implementation of the policy.

He added that a proposal for a rehri market was also under consideration. A meeting on encroachments will be held with the shopkeepers on Monday, he said.
