The cricketing ties between India and South Africa may be heading for rough weather following news that Haroon Lorgat is the frontrunner for the post of the chief executive officer of Cricket South Africa. The acrimonious history between Lorgat and the BCCI is well known with the South African upsetting the world’s most powerful board on many issues during his time as ICC CEO.

CSA is expected to conduct interviews of the three candidates short-listed for the job next week. Given his administrative experience in international cricket, Lorgat is technically the favourite, but the Indian cricket board is known to have has expressed its reservations against Lorgat and should CSA decide on Lorgat, it may have bearing on India’s tour to the rainbow nation scheduled to begin in November. They have apparently made it known that his appointment could lead to a pull out by Team India.

In March, CSA’s independent director Norman Arendse revealed the BCCI had threatened to pull out of the tour if Lorgat got the CEO’s post. The BCCI did not have the best of equations with Lorgat during his stint as the ICC CEO on issues like DRS, which Lorgat supported, implementation of WADA, introduction of Test championship, the number of teams for 2011 World Cup and Woolf report.
