In a most outrageous incident, a 28-year-old nun from Odisha's Kandhamal district was abducted and repeatedly gangraped for about a week by some persons in Odisha, police said on Sunday.

The police have arrested two persons, both cousins of the victim, after she filed a complaint in Brahmanigaon police station of the district, about 250 km south of Bhubaneswar.

"Search is on for a woman who called the victim over telephone to come from Chennai to Bhubaneswar on the pretext that her mother was ill," Baliguda sub-divisional police officer KV Singh told HT, adding that involvement of another person in the crime was also being investigated.

The nun, who works in a church in Chennai, caught a Bhubaneswar bound train after she got the call from the woman. But as the train arrived at Berhampur railway station in Ganjam district on July 5, the victim's two cousins made her get down the train and took her away in a car in which the woman also waited for them.

They allegedly kept the nun in several locations and repeatedly raped her. On July 12 she somehow managed to reach her village and reported the matter to the police on July 13.

Though the crime did not occur in the jurisdiction of Brahmanigaon police station, the police took up the case in view of its gravity and arrested the two accused from Berhampur on Saturday evening.
