An uncle-nephew duo was arrested for allegedly murdering a local extortionist at west Delhi's Ranhola, the special cell said on Tuesday.

Identified as Arif, 28, and his nephew Sher Khan, 19, residents of Uttam Nagar JJ Colony area, the men had ambushed victim Kuldeep after having called him near a meat shop on June 29 evening, said an officer.

"Around 11:30 pm on the fateful day, the victim had gone out for some snacks with his friends Vicky and Noor Mohammad to the Qureshi Meat Shop in Ranhola," said an officer.

"A little after they reached the spot, Arif shouted out and called Kuldeep aside. As Kuldeep went to see him, he, Sher Khan and Shahrukh assaulted him mercilessly before shooting him dead and fled the scene," said the officer.

An entire fortnight after the crime, the police claimed that information was received on July 14 that Arif and Sher Khan would come to the Sarai Kale Khan Bus Stand in the early hours.

"Accordingly, a trap was laid at the vantage points by the team led by inspectors Hridaya Bhushan and Lalit Mohan Negi and the accused duo was nabbed from the spot before being subjected to sustained interrogation," the officer said.

During their questioning, the police claimed, the men admitted to their involvement in the crime. They said they executed the murder in retaliation to Kuldeep's repeated bids at extorting money from them.

"They disclosed that they ran a Gramin Sewa vehicle in Uttam Nagar and that Kuldeep used to extort money from them as precondition for allowing them to remain in the business," said the officer.

"Their plan to kill Kuldeep was seemingly hatched on the spot. Both of them men have been arrested for their alleged involvement in other crimes earlier," the officer added.
