Rane had approached the high court after the sessions court rejected his anticipatory bail application on July 2.
Appearing for the state, additional public prosecutor Anuradha Mane opposed the anticipatory bail on grounds that Rane had given a false report about the building in 2008.
Mane contended that the false report was submitted after Rane visited and inspected the building.
She said Rane had inspected the building on November 14, 2008, and submitted a report saying that no additional alterations were carried out in the ground floor of the building.
The report also stated that no unauthorised work was found to have been carried out.
The November inspection had been the result of a complaint by advocate Rizwan Merchant on November 10, 2008, pointing out illegal alterations being made at the ground floor of the building.
Rane had urged the court to consider the technical committee report — secured under the Right to Information act — which was prepared after the collapse of the Mahim building.
According to the technical committee report, no alterations had been done to the foundation of the building, the court was told.Aftab Manzil collapsed on the night of June 10.
