A prominent orthopaedics surgeon may soon leave the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) for a private hospital, which is said to have offered the doctor a hefty pay package.
A source in the PGIMER administration has said that Dr Ramesh Kumar Sen, a
professor in the institute's orthopaedics department, is likely to join a prominent SAS Nagar hospital. Dr Sen will complete 20 years in the institute soon, which will make him eligible for post-retrial benefits, the source said. He is expected to resign after that.
The sources in Fortis also confirmed the development. The Fortis was looking for suitable orthopaedics surgeon as a replacement of Dr Manuj Wadhwa, who joined Max Hospital last month.
The sources also revealed that Dr Sen is going to join Fortis for at least four times more salary as compare to what he is getting in PGIMER. In PGIMER a doctor of Dr Sen's level gets around Rs. 1.5 lakh.
Though it is quite a common practice among the PGIMER doctors to join private hospitals after getting retired from the institute. It included Dr JD Wig, Dr P Kulhara, Dr RJ Dash, Dr VK Khosla.
But these hospitals have also pulled the doctors who had still a long service left at the institute. Some of these included cardiologists Dr HK Bali 2007, Dr Jagmohan Verma 2005, endocrinologist Dr R Muralidharan, Dr KP Singh. Most of these doctors left because they were denied promotion to their next level or they remained victims of their heads.
Dr Sen was awarded highest research award of Indian Orthopaedic association (IOA) for his research on the clinical use of stem cell has been done with the help of Blood Transfusion Department in collaboration with Association of Dynamic Osteosynthesis Hong Kong and Association of Orthopaedic Research, France.
When tried to contact Dr Sen, his mobile remained switched off.
