In an attempt to check malpractice in dispensation of petrol at the filling stations, the oil companies have come up with a new software called ‘No Print No Delivery System (NPND)’.
This system requires bill to be produced on every transaction.
And no bill would be produced
unless the last drop of petrol is out of the dispenser.
Earlier, the bills were produced only on the request of the consumer.
General manager, IOC, UP Singh says presently the petrol dealers of the state capital are using first and second level of automation in their dispensers, which are not that accurate and there is a possibility of error.
“But with the new system (third generation automation technique for dispensation of petrol), possibility to manipulate the dispensing system would come to an end. And consumers would be getting the amount for what they pay. This technique has already been tried out at a petrol pump in Kanpur in Mati area,” he added.
According to Singh, by March next year, 150 petrol pumps in and around Lucknow would be fitted with the new system to check any malpractice. This system would be adopted by IOC first and then the others would follow suit.
The district petrol pump dealers’ association has welcomed the decision of the oil companies.
According to the norms, deviation of more than 25 ml is not permitted at every 5 litre of petrol supply.
But usually, petrol pumps give around 20 ml to 120 ml less in a litre and this fraud goes undetected as the machine shows full reading. Many times, dealers are caught dispensing lesser petrol, especially in the remote areas.
Often people are left fuming over their vehicles for giving lesser average because they don’t know they are being delivered lesser petrol at the pumps.
This practice continues unnoticed in absence of advanced detecting instruments required to check lesser measurement of petrol done by petrol pump attendants.
