The body of a man, who allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Sidhwan canal, was fished out on Tuesday. Kulwant Singh allegedly ended his life following ill-treatment meted out by his in-laws. Five member of his in-laws family have been booked for abetment to suicide. In his complaint to police, Iqbal singh, a resident of Janta Nagar, alleged that Kulwant committed suicide as his in-laws used to level allegations against him and harassed him.

He said Kulwant married Givendeep Kaur in 2012, following which his in-laws started harassing him by claiming that Kaur was not happy with him. Iqbal alleged that on July 19, Kulwant's brother-in-law came to his house and embarrassed him.

Thereafter, Kulwant told his parents that he was disappointed by the behaviour of his in-laws, and left the house.

Later his family came to know that Kulwant had jumped into Sidhwan canal. His body was fished out by the police on Tuesday.

The police have booked the deceased's father-in-law Amrik Singh, mother-in-law Paramjit Kaur, Charanjeet Kaur, Amarjeet Singh and Jasdeep Singh under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) .
