Officers-in-charge of Panrui and Sainthia appealed to a Suri court seeking permission for starting legal proceedings against Trinamool district president Anubrata Mondal and Labhpur MLA Monirul Islam.
On Wednesday, the OC, Panrui police station, Sampad Mukherjee, sought permission from
the court to start proceedings against Anubrata under section 179 (threatening a public servant) and 505/1/B (making provocative speech and to instigate people) of IPC.
The OC Sainthia, Kartik Mohan Ghosh, sought permission to take steps against the Trinamool MLA of Labhpur, Monirul Islam, under section 506 (issuing life threat publicly).
After repeated directions by the State Election Commission, the Birbhum district administration at last took steps to initiate legal action against Anubrata and Monirul.
During panchayat election campaign, offensive and controversial speeches of Anubrata and Monirul created a controversy in state politics.
On July 17, in the presence of two ministers of the Trinamool state government — Malay Ghatak (agriculture minister) and Chandranath Singha (fisheries minister) — at Kasba village in an election campaign, Trinamool district president Anubrata Mondal said, “Don’t vote for any independent candidate.
If any independent candidate threatens you, just demolish his house - set fire to his house… And if any administration helps independent candidates, bomb the police; I am asking you to do so.”
On July 11, at Sontsole in Md Bazaar area, Anubrata was addressing a public rally. He said, “Congress is the son of a beggar; they lack class.”
Earlier, on June 2, in a party meeting at Rampurhat, Mondal asked his party men not to allow any candidate of the CPI(M) and the Congress to file nomination.
Monirul threatened Bapi Dutta, son of former district president of the Congress Late Nihar Dutta, at Sainthia on Saturday.
He said, “If you challenge me, I’m MLA Labhpur … earlier I had crushed to death three - I’ll not take a minute to get your head…”
