Even as 21 out of the 39 persons, who have been charged in the T20 spot-fixing scandal, are out on bail and 10 others are still absconding, the Delhi Police are confident that their investigation and evidence collected against the alleged accused will sustain in the court of law.
after filing the chargesheet, a senior special cell officer claimed that they have named Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar and Chota Shakeel as the key players.
Asked about the evidence which they have collected to prove the charges against the 39 alleged accused, the senior officer said they have submitted copies of the telephonic conversations which the alleged accused were having with each other before the beginning of 2013 T20 tournament and during the matches as well.
“We seized and minutely examined over hundred mobile phones and other electronic gadgets which the arrested persons, including players like Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan, were using to contact the bookies. We also seized ownership documents of such seized electronic gadgets,” said the senior officer.
About evidence against Dawood, the officer claimed that they have submitted the confessional statement of Ramesh Vyas, a bookie, who revealed that he had got a call from Pakistan and the caller had given him some instructions and had asked him to work honestly with Salim alias ‘Master’ and Javed Chutani aka ‘Doctor’.
“We have been able to match the caller’s voice with Dawood’s voice in two of the conversations which were intercepted by us during our entire operations,” the officer added.
Police have also mentioned two permission orders which they had got from the home ministry to intercept telephonic conversations of the alleged accused.
The voice sample reports of 12 people, including three cricketers, and bookies like Chandresh Patel, Kiran Dole, Deepak, Sunil Bhatia, Jiju, etc, obtained from the forensic laboratory were also added in the chargesheet as evidence.
“The call detail records (CDRs) and locations of the mobile phones of the arrested persons were also examined and it helped them establish their association with each other. The forensic report of the text messages and contact lists in their mobile phones is important evidence which will support our case. Besides, we have also submitted the travel details, documents pertaining to their stay in different hotels and purchase made using the ill-gotten money during the IPL have also been submitted before the court,” the officer added.
