Those accused whose voice samples have already been taken or would be taken include team principal of the Chennai Super Kings, Gurunath Meiyappan, actor Vindoo Dara Singh, top bookie Shobhan Mehta and Ramesh Vyas - owner of the office from where the telephone exchange connecting Pakistani and Indian bookies was operated.
Money won or lost is usually settled in betting circles at the end of the season. But as most of the accused were arrested mid-season after the raid on Vyas's office on May 14 in Kalbadevi, money has not changed hands and this could weaken the case, sources said. Betting can still be proved if the voice samples match.
It was the phone intercepts that led to the raid and breaking of the betting racket. At Vyas' office, the raiding party found that 27 lines connected Indian and Pakistani bookies and three more lines connected Indian bookies with those in Dubai.
