The BJP leaders in charge of the party’s campaign sub-committees presented their plans to campaign committee chief Narendra Modi here on Thursday evening. All top leaders except LK Advani and MM Joshi – who had prior engagements – attended the meeting chaired by Modi.
“We have decided to launch a mass campaign on August 15. The party brass will address more than 100 rallies across the nation as part of our poll preparations,” BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar said after the two-hour meeting.

After Modi’s Hyderabad rally on August 11, he is set to attend the rallies in Jaipur (September 8) and Bhopal (September 25). These rallies will be part of the party’s state poll campaign.

The party would corner the government on economic issues, security and graft in Parliament, BJP leaders said, signalling a stormy monsoon session.

Earlier in the day, top BJP and RSS leaders were closeted in a meeting for over six hours to brainstorm on the saffron party’s plans for the 2014 elections.

Party chief Rajnath Singh said: “We discussed only the economic, social and security issues. No political issues were discussed.” Asked whether Modi’s possible PM candidature was discussed, Singh replied in the negative. “The party’s parliamentary board will decide this at an appropriate time,” he added.

An RSS leader said the meet was called to discuss the BJP-RSS coordination for the Lok Sabha elections.

Apart from Modi and other top BJP leaders, RSS leaders like Suresh (Bhaiyyaji) Joshi and Suresh Soni, the Sangh’s pointsman for the BJP, were present. Though Advani skipped the meeting due to an engagement, he is said to have had a telephonic conversation with Bhaiyyaji Joshi on Wednesday evening.
