All administrative measures, including rationing of essential commodities, were discussed at a meeting chaired by Sikkim chief secretary R Ongmu in Gangtok on Wednesday.
Sikkim is completely dependent for its supplies and connection with the rest of the country on National Highway 31A, which runs through the Darjeeling hills. This highway connects Gangtok with Siliguri and runs through Kalimpong sub-division of Darjeeling district.
The Sikkim police chief, secretaries of the home, transport, food and civil supplies departments and the chief engineer of the Border Roads Organisation attended the meeting.
Ongmu instructed the senior officials to stock sufficient amounts of essential commodities like foodgrains, petrol, diesel, LPG anda vegetables.

In western Tamil Nadu, regional outfit Kongunadu Desiya Makkal Katchi called for creation of a separate state of Kongu Nadu being carved out of Tamil Nadu. Its general secretary, ER Eswaran, said in a press statement, “If talukas and districts are being divided for administrative reasons, why cannot a Kongu Nadu be carved out of Tamil Nadu?”
