Patwaris and kanungos - who are considered as the backbone of the revenue department in the field - marched in procession to the offices of respective deputy commissioners to submit a memorandum of demands for onward transmission to the Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda.
President of the state Revenue Patwaris and Kanungos Association Om Parkash Sain said similar protests were held in the other districts also.
In the memorandum, the association claimed that patwaris and kanungos worked day and night to implement the policies of the government as well as help in smooth functioning of the administration. Their duty hours were not fixed and they were even called to work on holidays.It further demanded that their salaries should be brought at par with that of their colleagues in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
Besides, the association also demanded that condition of clearing internal examination for getting next pay grade and promotion from patwaris to kanungos under assured carrier progression should be removed and imposed at the level of kanungo at promotion time.
It also demanded that those patwaris, who had cleared their internal examination for kanungo position, should be allowed to appear for the examination for naib tehsildar.
