The Samajwadi Party is plagued by a distinct malady from the beginning about which a party leader once said: "This party does not need a destructive opposition, we have sufficient enemies within. We can't behave".
Not a month has passed in last 17 months into power, when the party did not have an egg on its face due to conduct and utterances by one or the other of its leaders whom party considers important.

The latest case in point is of the senior party leader Narendra Singh Bhati who made SDM Durga Shakti Nagpal's suspension case even more embarrassing and complicated for the Samajwadi Party government.

Durga who is being hailed as a champion, is 'Behoodi Mahila (absurd woman)' for Bhati. He was caught on camera saying how he spoke with Netaji (Mulayam) and Mukhay Mantri (Akhilesh Yadav) and got Durga suspended within 40 minutes of mosque wall demolition incident.

Bhati is an influential Samajwadi Party leader and he got Lok Sabha candidature for the Gautam Buddha Nagar in the very first list of LS 2014 candidatures that the party declared a year ago. The man, according to his affidavit on National Election Watch's website, has a criminal history and is class 12th pass.

As we go back in time, Bhati is one among the satraps who hold party to ransom. Before him was the case of minister Pandit Singh that caused CM Akhilesh Yadav embarrassment when he was accused of beating up and abducting the chief medical officer of Gonda in October. Akhilesh sacked him the next day, swore him into his cabinet four months after.

In between Pandit's sacking and reinstatement, the minister ranked KC Pandey was caught by Gonda police offering bribe over phone for illegal trafficking of cattle. Akhilesh ordered probe.

In May, the stamp and registration department minister Durga Prasad publically said: "Even God cannot stop crime."

Durga Prasad's statement came in when Akhilesh began facing intense criticism on law and order in the state. This statement triggered a spate of such statements that three MLAs of the party criticized the government on law and order front.

It was the SP MLA Shakir Ali's act of riding horse at Deoria railway station platform that had cause Mulayam to hold a meeting of all the newly elected MLAs, MPs and office bearers wherein he had warned everyone to behave them.

Another minister was booted out in April following his sexist remarks about comparisons of beauty of two lady district magistrates followed by his comment of making Pratapgarh's road like the cheeks of Hema Malini and Madhuri Dixit.
