A total of 38 nakas were laid on the outer roads and 68 within the city under the supervision of 14 DSPs and 17 inspectors on the intervening night of August 3 and 4.
As many as 778 police personnel and 59 PCR vehicles were deployed for the night checking.UT inspector general of police RP Upadhyaya along with UT SSP Naunihal Singh personally checked the deployments and working of the police force during the exercise.
Apart from this four dummy vehicles were moved in the city to check the alertness of cops at naka points and all of them were intercepted by the police parties.
A total of 4,932 vehicles were checked and 168 challans were issued for various traffic violations, while, 28 vehicles were impounded during the exercise.
Beside this, the Chandigarh traffic police had laid nakas to check drunken driving at various sensitive points near clubs. As many as 80 challans were issued for drunken driving and 20 challans were issued for other traffic violations. Total 108 vehicles were impounded during the checking by traffic cops.
According to the police, similar exercises will be conducted in cooperation and association with Panchkula and SAS Nagar police.
