With a huge repertoire of film songs behind them, singers Kailash Kher and Shreya Ghoshal are stars in their own right. Yet, they have never teamed up. Until now. The duo has written and composed a song for an indie project, which brings together their diverse vocal styles and music sensibilities.

“As an artiste, it is a refreshing change for me to work on something independently. The track is called, Naina chaar, and it is a song of love. We have just recorded the scratch; the production work is underway,” says Shreya. The song is a part of an online initiative by a music company and the artistes’ collaboration will be chronicled in an episodic documentary on the their website. It will be officially released at the end of the month, with a webcert featuring both singers.

“Shreya is known for her silky, romantic style, so it will be nice to see her perform a rustic song with earthy lyrics,” says Kailash. With an increasing number of artiste collaborations coming out in the past couple of years, thanks to music series such as Coke Studio, The Dewarists and Sound Trippin’, do they feel the pressure of churning out a hit? “I feel more excited than pressured,” says Kailash, adding, “The audience will decide what’s good. All we can do is to create a song we believe in.” Shreya adds, “This collaboration is different because here we have two established voices teaming up, rather than one veteran and one upcoming, which is what one usually sees on these shows.”
