Appreciating the initiatives of NRIs, Majithia said this scheme served the dual purpose of development of the particular area along with reconnecting NRIs to their motherland.
He said the NRI affairs department had received a number of projects put forth by NRIs, while reiterating his commitment to ensure timely clearance of these projects along with prompt disbursement of matching grant for their completion in a time-bound manner.
He also appreciated the role of Punjab public works department (PWD) minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon and Olympian Pargat Singh and Manpreet Singh Ayali, both MLAs, for their close coordination with NRIs of their respective constituencies.
Majithia asked the principal secretary, NRI affairs, to depute a nodal officer for regular interaction with NRIs undertaking development works in their areas so that they should not face any problem in early completion of their projects.
Majithia handed over cheques to the Guru Nanak Mission Hospital Society, Mithapur (Rs 25 lakh); village development committee, Duhre (Rs 20 lakh); Dhanda Vikas Society (Rs 5 lakh); Raipur Farala Welfare Trust, Raipur (Rs 20 lakh); India Canada village improvement trust, Pandori Kad village (Rs 20 lakh); village life improvement foundation, Kanech (Rs 30 lakh); and India Canada village improvement trust, Ratenda village (Rs 30 lakh).
