A waqf board-appointed committee official openly lending support to suspended IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpal on Wednesday said he was facing threats from ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) workers, who have encroached upon the board’s prime properties.

Secretary of Hazrat Syed Bhureshah Committee Kadir Khan Jayaswal had demanded that the SP government in Uttar Pradesh revoke Nagpal’s suspension.

On Tuesday, Jayaswal and 50 others protested against chief minister Akhilesh Yadav outside the office of Gautam Buddh Nagar district magistrate in Greater Noida’s Surjanpur.

“When I reached home in Dankaur, I got calls threatening me with dire consequences,” Jayaswal said. “Several goons came to my house, and asked me to keep mum on the land-grabbing issue and Nagpal’s suspension.”

“I do not fear for my life,” he said. “My fight for the upright officer will continue.”

Jayaswal alleged that UP waqf board chairman Zafar Faruqi had also threatened him.
