The trouble over Telangana has had a silver lining for Chennai. Suddenly, the city has been flooded with tomatoes originally meant for Hyderabad. Thanks to the protests, truckloads of tomatoes from Chittoor district's Madanapalle are being diverted to Chennai and the price of the vegetable has dropped from Rs. 40 to Rs. 10 a kg.

“Before the protests in Andhra Pradesh, Koyambedu market used to receive 60 trucks and now the figure is 80,” said Selvaraj, secretary of the wholesale vegetable market association.

Unfortunately, for Chennaites, all other vegetables are priced high.
