Koottimuttiya, a Malayalam song from the film Pullipulikalum Aatumkuttiyum, has taken the coveted spot of being the most watched YouTube video this week with 1,903,587 viewers and a good 1,218 likes.
A Lal Jose film, Pullipulikalum Aatumkuttiyum loosely translates to The Leopards
and the Goat-kid. Touted as a "family entertainer" the film hasn't got too many raving reviews. Manoramaonline tagged it "Old wine in a beautiful new bottle" because of its sheer scenic appeal.
The YouTube hit also borrows from the film in terms of the beautiful setting it has been filmed in. Right from the first shot in a dense kaadu with glow-worms to the bit shot on the house-boat and beautiful green backwaters, Kerala has been celebrated well.
A picturesque location, Kuttanadu, and the fluidity of its theme, a green and wet Kerala, the setting completely overshadows Kunchacko Boban and Namitha Pramod's romantic chemistry filmed in the video.
Composed by the National Award recipient Vidyasagar, the song resonates a sense of the old Malayalam melody. Najim Arshad's deep voice married with Sujatha's ever young voice, the song blends the innocence of new tunes and Yesudaseque depth. But of course, it is no exemplary piece of art. At best a cute track.
"The artistic filming of song sequences is another attraction of the film. Though the songs evoke memories of the songs in Lal Jose's mega hit Meesa Madhavan, they are worth watching," Manoramaonline states.
Deepu Mathew comments on the video, "Sujatha chechy.... Ur age is 50.. But ur sound is like 18.... What a romantic voice (sic)."
"Truly like a nightingales voice. Very good singing.. (sic)," declares Anu Priya.
If Veeyan of nowrunning.com is to be believed the film heavily relies on its music and setting. "There are two people worth a very special mention in this jumble - S Kumar for gifting us with some amazingly stunning frames that soak up the very last bit of exquisiteness from the spectacular Kuttanadu locales, and Vidyasagar for not disappointing us yet again with those easy on the ear melodies."
