The IPH department had arranged 17 water tankers on Thursday, whereas the number increased to 20 on Friday. Besides, those not in the condition to carry water buckets have been left with no option but to pay Rs. 5 to Rs. 10 per bucket to labourers.
Notably, the Khairi lift drinking water scheme is the major source of water supply which provides around 25 lakh litres every day, whereas the Nehar Sewar gravity scheme provides only 9 lakh litres of water.
In August 2010, the Khairi drinking water scheme had collapsed for more than 15 days. The town has been witnessing heavy rain for the past many days.
Santosh Thakur, SDO of IPH, claimed that the scheme was restored on Thursday night, but there was a defect in power transformers, which was repaired on Friday morning. He said the supply would normalise soon.
