A former Air Force man allegedly killed a woman while she resisted his attempt to abduct her daughter at Jhal village of Kosli block in Rewari district on Thursday.
The 50-year-old woman, Narayani Devi, used to live with her two daughters - Kanchan and Rachna.
accused, Gobind Singh, was reportedly in love with Kanchan for the past two years. On Thursday, he, along with six men who had criminal background, had allegedly come to Devi's house and tried to abduct Kanchan after locking up Rachna in a separate room.
When Devi opposed, he allegedly injured her with a knife and later crushed her under a vehicle before fleeing the spot with Kanchan.
Thereafter, the villagers staged a protest by placing Devi's body on the Kanina-Kosli road. They even attacked officials - Pankaj Nain, superintendent of police (SP), Dhanpati, Kosli deputy superintendent of police (DSP), and Amit Gulia, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) - who had reached the spot to take stock of the situation.
The protesters alleged that the victim's family had been complaining about Gobind's threats of abducting Kanchan, but Kosli SHO Ram Swaroop had failed to act against him as they shared good rapport.
However, when Nain assured the villagers of arresting the accused, they lifted the body and ended the protest.
The accused was booked for murder and kidnapping by the Kosli police.
Gobind of the Rajput community had divorced his wife, with whom he also had a child, in 2011.
Sources said his extra-marital affair was the reason behind his divorce and in the same year he had also resigned from his job in the Air Force.
On July 22, he was booked by the Kosli police under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for threatening Devi to kidnap her daughter. Police had also recovered a live cartridge from Devi's house and arrested Gobind. Currently, he was out on bail, but again booked for murder and kidnapping on Thursday.
