Police sources claimed that the victim has been identified as Deepak alias Deepu of Bapu Dham Colony in Sector 26. He was allegedly killed by one Jagpal Singh alias Gaggi, already convicted in a robbery case. Jagpal was out on bail and suspected that Deepak had illicit relations with his brother's wife.
Deepak called Jagpal to the jungle for consuming drugs as they frequently consumed drugs along with Rakesh, a resident of Bapu Dham Colony.
Jagpal then questioned Deepak's relations with his sister-in-law. Following this, both had a verbal spat and later Rakesh Kumar held Deepak's hands while Jagpal took a huge stone and hit Deepak on his head. When Deepak got unconscious, both kept hitting him till he succumbed to his injuries.
Rakesh Kumar is still absconding and the police are on a lookout. Kaka Singh, a resident of Saketari village and a chowkidar of the forest department had found Deepak's body, on patrolling duty in the jungle area.
The body was lying in a pool of blood with fatal injuries on the head. The forensic team of Chandigarh police had collected evidences for the identification of the victim.
The police claimed Deepak was booked for two thefts in March at the Sector 19 police station.
A special team headed by SHO of police station-26 Anokh Singh cracked the case with the arrest of Jagpal Singh alias Gaggi of Phase-I Bapu Dham Colony at Sector 26.
Jagpal was also convicted in a case registered on July 1 in 2009 for robbery at the Sector 26 police station. He was awarded rigorous imprisonment for seven years and was out on bail.
