He said under an alert issued by him, people mainly Gujjars living between the banks of the Beas and Ravi rivers and the dhussi (katcha embankment) in the district were evacuated and asked to stay on the bank along the rivers. He admitted that the standing paddy crop between river banks and dhussi bundh besides certain pockets had been inundated. The DC said he would get the loss assessed after the water level recedes. The paddy crop on 4,500 acres of land was inundated in 27 villages of the district. The DC said the discharge in the Beas and Ravi rivers was in a controlled capacity.
