The firing lasted for nearly three hours. An army spokesperson said, "Some militants were killed in the firing in Kupwara district but no bodies have been recovered yet due to bad weather in the area. There were no casualties on the Indian side."
The Army has launched a combing operation and more details are awaited.
Infiltration has been on the rise since the month of June this year and the Army has killed 28 militants in counter-insurgency operations since June 24 this year in Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, security forces have launched a cordon and search operation this morning in Handwara area of Kupwara, 85 kms from here, following presence of militants in the area, the police said.
The incident comes less than two weeks after Pakistani soldiers killed five Indian jawans 400 metres inside the Indian territory in the Poonch sector on August 5.
