August 18, 2013
Volkswagen is planning to launch the new CrossPolo this week. We were the first to break the story way back in December, 2012.

The CrossPolo is basically a Polo hatchback with additional body cladding. The ride height will be slightly increased and a thick, matte plastic band extends across the chin, the flanks and around the rear. The wheel arches get the same treatment and there’s a scuff plate with a dull silver finish. The CrossPolo also gets silver anodised roof rails where up to 75kg of luggage can be mounted and secured. The CrossPolo will also come with a silver diffuser at the rear and could also get larger alloy wheels.
Power will be sourced from a 1.2-litre three-cylinder diesel engine that also does duty on the Polo. According to our sources, the CrossPolo will come in only one trim and will have similar equipment-levels as the top-end Highline diesel variant.
The CrossPolo is expected to be priced around Rs. 70,000-80,000 more than the Polo TDI Highline variant. Our sources also tell us that Volkswagen could do a soft-launch of the CrossPolo on August 21.
The carmaker is also working on bringing another variant of the CrossPolo later, touted to be more upmarket variant with a spare wheel at the back and VW's new 1.5-litre diesel engine. This could be set for a 2014 launch.
