The Kharar police had on Tuesday arrested six members of the 'kala kachha' gang who were planning to carry out a robbery. The SAS Nagar district police press release also mentioned these arrests, naming them as members of the gang.
There were also a few violent incidents in villages in Rupnagar district where such suspected gangs raided houses in isolated areas.
While several villagers in vulnerable districts of SAS Nagar, Rupnagar and Ludhiana had started exercising 'theekri pehra' (night vigil) to prevent such incidents, the deputy chief minister ruled out the presence of any such gang as "rumours and unnecessary panic". 'No illegal colony'
On the implementation of the state policy to regularise illegal colonies/structures, Sukhbir said the government would not allow any such upcoming structures.
When pointed out that such unauthorised apartments were coming up in the name of Amazon Towers in Kharar's Sunny Enclave, he said he would inquire into the matter. He also expressed concern over mining on prohibited forest lands, assuring that a complaint in this regard would lead to "immediate action".
No security in Canada
Sukhbir acknowledged that he had cancelled his visit to Canada following security concerns. He said the Canadian authorities had refused to provide him security in that country.
