‘This map is not in accordance with the Survey of India copy right map (sic)…It was observed that the international boundary of the Indian state of Gujarat is wrongly shown in the map appearing in the Class 10 geography textbook of Maharashtra. The names of
Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar Islands also do not appear on the existing map,” read the letter by Naveen Tomar from the Surveyor General’s office accessed by HT.
The letter has recommended suitable action to prevent such unauthorised and incorrect depiction of the international boundary in textbooks.
“I am not aware of this issue since I have newly joined as the board chairperson. We will look into the matter,” said Gangadhar Mamhane, chairperson of the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
