Rakyam also operates a small trust that distributes books to under-privileged students from the premises and the robbers used this as a ruse to gain entry to the house.
"Two men appeared at the door saying they wanted to donate some books to the trust," a senior police officer said.
As Bablu opened the main door, the assailants overpowered him before making their way to Rakyam and his father. They were then allegedly joined by two more men with their faces muffled.
The four men locked the three occupants of the house in a room, snatched the keys to a cupboard containing valuables and ransacked the premises.
"According to the complainant, the men managed to flee with Rs. 45 lakh in cash and jewels valued at an estimated Rs. 20 lakh," the officer said.
Later, Rakyam managed to break out of the room and called the police. A case of robbery was registered at CR Park police station and sketches of the two unmasked men have been prepared.
