Three highway robbers, believed to be part of a gang of six to seven men, had pulled the constable out of the car in which she was travelling with her parents.
The constable lost her husband to Maoist violence and was given a job on compensatory grounds.
“We are trying hard to identify the criminals involved in this shameful act. We are conducting raids at various places to arrest suspects and we expect a breakthrough soon,” Raj said.
The highway, 9km from Latehar town, has been infamous for frequent traffic jams. In June, a Latehar surgeon had been robbed near this place and according to unconfirmed reports, molested too.
