In a statement issued here, Amarinder said, "I have been noticing for the past few days that the PPCC president has started announcing party candidates for different parliamentary and assembly segments. The PPCC president has no authority to do so and this has only created confusion among the party rank and file."
During his mass contact programme in Sangrur, Bajwa on Friday had declared that local MP Vijay Inder Singla would be the Sangrur candidate for the Lok Sabha polls.
The former chief minister said allotting a ticket was the prerogative of the party president and vice-president. Amarinder said, "By going on an announcement spree nominating candidates for the assembly and parliamentary segments in Punjab, Bajwa is overstepping his brief. This only sends wrong signals among the rank and file of the party."
Amarinder reminded Bajwa that there was a proper system in the Congress to select the candidates after a broad-based and transparent selection process before a final decision is taken by the Congress president. "The PPCC president cannot just announce the party candidates on his own," he said.
