“There is no news of the two missing trekkers, and now we have also lost contact with the rescue teams,” Macleodganj station house officer Gurbachan Singh said, adding that the team had last contacted the control room on Saturday night.
“The team told us that heavy rain and thick fog in the high hills were hampering their progress, and they had searched the entire area from Triund up to Illaqa from where the snowline starts, by evening,” he added.
Local trekker's association president Rashpal Pathania said all efforts to contact the rescue team have failed, adding that chances of locating the missing foreigners were “bleak”.
The two students were part of a group of 32 foreigners who had volunteered for an educational programme of Bangluru-based NGO Field Service and Intercultural Learning, and had come to a school in Naddi village for two weeks. The group had started the hike on August 19.
