Normal life in various parts of the district was paralysed as private bus operators observed a daylong strike here on Monday.
They were demanding increase in bus fares and grant of more facilities to them. For want of buses, thousands of passengers remained stranded on roads and even at the bus stands.

In the wake of strike, the HRTC buses were jam-packed to such an extent that passengers travelled on rooftops to reach their destination on time.

“Taxi drivers also made hay in wake of the strike. They charged as per their whims and fancies,” alleged a passenger, Ram Singh.

The call for the bus strike was given by the private bus transporters of the district. A spokesman claimed that the strike was complete and it badly paralysed the transport services in the district.

However, an official spokesman claimed that strike had no effect on the transport services in the district as the HRTC plied its buses on more routes in view of the strike.
