In two separate incidents on Monday, militants killed a policeman and a CRPF personnel in Kashmir.

While the policeman was killed on Monday afternoon when militants opened fire outside a special operations group's (SOG) camp in Anantnag district, a CRPF personnel was killed and another injured in Shopian district in the evening.

Around 6pm, militants opened fire at a CRPF deployment near a lane in Shopian's Awneera area, around 50 km from Srinagar. Preliminary reports suggest that the CRPF jawan died on the spot while another personnel was injured. He has been shifted to a hospital.

There were unconfirmed reports that two weapons -- one carbine and an INSAS rifle -- were snatched by the militants. The police refused to confirm the report.

The attack happened quite close to where ruling National Conference MLC Showkat Ganai had gone to see a local resident. The police are investigating if it was an attack on the CRPF patrol or attempt on the life of the MLC.

The killing came hours after militants killed a cop in nearby district of Anantnag on Monday afternoon.

The police, who have launched a manhunt, are ascertaining the nature of weapons used in the attack. After firing a volley of bullets, the militants immediately fled from the spot.

The policeman has been identified as Salamatullah Khan, a resident of Tanghdar in north Kashmir's Uri area, and is said to have received several bullet injuries.

A civilian also received bullet wounds in the leg. He has been shifted to a Srinagar hospital.

Around 14 cops have been killed in separate militant attacks in the Kashmir valley this year.
