A day after three unidentified men opened fire at builder Ajay Gosalia alias Ganda and fled in a Toyota Innova, the police are trying to find out who owns the car.
While sources from Bangur Nagar police station said the car belongs to a Thane travel agency, a crime branch source said the vehicle is registered in the name of a policeman. A team of officers from Bangur Nagar police station has been dispatched to Ghodbunder for further leads, sources said.

A senior officer said they were close to solving the case and the role of an underworld gang in the attack is coming to the fore. Another officer said investigating officials had found out that the car was taken on loan. The police have approached the bank that sanctioned the loan to the travel agency to buy the SUV. The police said Gosalia has not been able to identify the trio as they fled soon after firing five rounds at him. An officer said, “The policeman we questioned told us he had given the vehicle to someone earlier as well. As there was no problem in the past, he did not think twice before giving it again.”

“We have not yet detained anyone in the case,” said Sunil Paraskar, additional commissioner of police, north region.

Raghunath Bagul, senior inspector at Bangur Nagar police station said, “Gosalia was not able to describe the incident clearly as it all happened in a jiffy. We have scanned the CCTV footage to understand what happened.”
