“It would be too early to comment on the issue. We are investigating the matter,” said SN Pradhan, additional director general of police, operations, Jharkhand and also the police spokesperson.
A senior police officer told HT that Bhatkal regularly visited Jharkhand to recruit youths in the banned organisation to spread terror.
The officer added that Manzar Imam, a Ranchi University gold medalist who was arrested by the police earlier this year, had told investigative agencies that Bhatkal and other members of the terrorist group used Ranchi and other major cities in Jharkhand as their hide-outs.
“We have contacted NIA to learn more about Bhatkal’s role and his movement in Jharkhand,” added Pradhan.
