JALANDHAR, August 31, 2013
With the sanctioning of grace period of next three months for submitting their Aadhaar numbers and bank account details with gas agencies in district, 93 %  LPG consumers, who have failed follow this procedure, will be able to get LPG cylinder on subsidised rates till November 30.

Those who will remain unable to submit the details before November 30, will have to buy cylinder on market rate from December 1.

With a poor response among public regarding providing the required details with gas agencies, the district has registered only 7% linkage of Aadhaar to LPG connections and Aadhaar to bank accounts.

In Jalandhar, from September 1, only this minuscule amount of LPG users will get subsidy.

Chief area manager, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Rajeev Patel told HT that the grace period of three months is a part of DBTL scheme so that LPG consumers can get their Aadhaar number and link it with their bank accounts if they wish to get their subsidy allotment of nine cylinders a year.

However, when asked about why consumers were not informed about the grace period, who were anxious of meeting deadline for submitting details, Patel denied and said, "We, through gas dealers are informing people. The functioning of district administration is under scanner as they are still unaware about the grace period and is confused about its implementation."

Moreover, as the district food and supply controller Tarwinder Singh Chopra who is nodal officer of this scheme, was under transfer and new officer is yet to join due to which, the work of establishment of centres of forming Aadhaar cards is also getting delayed. Assistant commissioner (general) Sanjeev Sharma said, "I have not received any information about the grace period. We have received an e-mail on Friday regarding launch of DBTL scheme on September 1."

In Nawanshahr, deputy commissioner Tanu M Kashyap released a press statement on Friday that those who have failed to provide the details to respective gas dealers into the grace period from June 1 to August 31, will have to pay the market rates to refill cylinders from September 1.
