Ram Bilas Sharma, state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has accused the Haryana government of providing a safe haven to two legislators - Zile Ram Sharma and Om Prakash Jain.
On Friday, a special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued non-bailable
warrants against Sharma and Jain for abetting the suicide of a former sarpanch of Kambopura in Karnal.
While Jain is an independent MLA from Panipat (rural), Sharma was elected as Haryana Janhit Congress candidate from Assandh, Karnal, but had later joined the Congress.
Ram Bilas Sharma told Hindustan Times on Sunday that it was unfortunate that several Congress MLAs or those supporting the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led government were involved in serious criminal cases.
He said that it was a serious matter that the elected representatives were found untraced by the CBI.
“From Gopal Kanda (accused in abetting suicide of his ex-employee) to Zile Ram Sharma and Jain, Hooda is running the government with the support of several criminal elements. There are strong apprehensions that the two legislators were provided a safe house by the state government for political reasons,” the BJP leader alleged.
He said that the Congress had lost ground in Haryana and the farming community was under tremendous financial burden due to “anti-farmer” policies.
He said that the forthcoming rally of the BJP in Rewari would be path breaking in the state politics.
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and the head of the BJP's election panel will be the main speaker at September 15 rally.
“Keeping in view the strong base of soldiers in the Indian army, the state unit has selected Rewari for the forthcoming rally. It will be a tribute to the lives they sacrificed for the nation,” the BJP leader said.
He said retired army personnel from Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and the National Capital Region comprising Delhi, including former army chief VK Singh, would attend the rally.
Pay to attend Modi's rally
The Haryana BJP president clarified that entry fee would be charged for Narendra Modi's rally scheduled to be held in Rewari on September 15. He said that the programme would be dedicated to those killed at Rezang La during the Chinese aggression in 1962, Siachin and other wars.
CBI fails to trace 2 MLAs
Teams of the CBI raided the houses of legislators Zile Ram Sharma and OP Jain in Karnal and Panipat districts on Saturday but failed to locate them. Their mobile phones are not accessible and the media and the CBI have failed to establish any contact with the two leaders who are wanted in a case of abetting suicide of a villager.
