The roads in the city are narrow with no parking zones. Encroachments by shopkeepers have led to further chaos with accidents a regular feature.
The police do not manage the show and the commuters are left with no other option than to negotiate the way themselves.
In fact, the authorities have themselves increased the chances of accidents with the faulty design of the Railway Over Bridge (ROB), built a few years ago and reconstructed. This is the only major link joining the city to the Cantonment. There was an effort to control traffic for a day, but it fizzled out.
Traffic police are busy either in VIP duty or in fining two-wheelers.
Reckless driving by minors is routine and the presence of stray animals in the city and the main roads adds to the danger on road.
The Circular Road in Ferozepur City, particularly at Zira gate is simply a potholed mud track and causes accidents and injuries to a lot of people.
"Railway Level Crossing at local Basti Tankan Wali, which generally remain closed had become a cause of daily trauma for the general public while the demand of an under-bridge had fall into deaf ears,". Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, a progressive farmer.
"Parents should also come forward and stop bowing infront of in-genuine demand of their minor youngsters to have bikes" Prof.S.P.Anand, a member of National Council for Teacher Education.
"Overcrowding in auto rickshaws or school transportation is a common sight but local administration seemed to be least bothered as nothing in concrete had ever been initiated to resolve it,". Naresh Sharma, a local activist.

"He had got sanctioned Rs.14 crore during last congress regime to construct two way RoB connecting City with Cantt area but SAD-BJP government later withdrew half of its amount and put the local people in a permanent problem by constructing a single lane bridge" Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki.
"Traffic management plan to install traffic signal lights and other required measures had been prepared and would be implement soon. Time to time traffic awareness programs are arranged in Schools and Colleges.", Lakhbir Singh, Superintendent of Police (Headquarter), Ferozepur.
He had taken up the matter with local administration to streamline the traffic system in this historical town and would ask again to speed up the process, Kamal Sharma, State Chief BJP who hails from this town.
