Muzaffarnagar, September 10, 2013
Riot-hit Muzaffarnagar and Shamli, by and large, remained peaceful on Tuesday with no reports of clashes being reported for anywhere.

IG (law and order) Rajkumar Vishwakarma, however, said three bodies of people killed in riots on previous days were recovered taking the death toll in the clashes to 40.

Body of a person was recovered from the jungle of village Sikhrera while two other bodies were recovered in Shahpur area. The Sikhrera death is also being probed as crime incident rather than that of riots.

Vishwakarma said till now 90 persons from city and 130 from rural areas had been arrested and during door-to-door search operation, a huge quantity of illegal arms weapons was seized in different areas. The IG said the entire district was slowly returning to normal.

He said 12 additional companies of paramilitary forces had been summoned for Muzaffarnagar and seven for Shamli to maintain law and order.

Vishwakarma said some communal tension prevailed in Baghpat area but no fresh violence was reported there.

Sources in Shamli said with the joint decision of some traders about 25% shops in the markets were opened but were closed by noon after a minor incident firing in Dayanand Nagar.
